Windsor Chair - New York Bowback
One of the most common styles of Windsor chairs. This is likely the most common design still in varous forms of production. This design is based off of the original chairmakers design in the 1780'sfrom the New York area. The shield shaped seat is not as deep as some, but is a very comfortable side chair. It can easily fit at a desk or the dining table. The chair is light weight, but very sturdy due to the braced tail and additional spidles that support the bow back. The spindles are shaped with a draw knife and spoke shaves. The seat is scooped out by hand. The bow is steamed bent the same way they were in the late 1780's. This is a chair will become a Family hierloom and handed down for many generations.
Stain Quality
We prefer Sherwin Williams deck stains for my outdoor furniture. Below are a variety and the most common stain colors that I use. The Solid stain colors last longer and hold up better if your chairs will be exposed directly to the weather. Semi-Transparent stains do show the grain pattern of the Cypress wood better but will require more maintenance after a year or so, depending on how much weather/exposure they get.
